ELKHART -- BOLT Document Management, 2701 Indusrtial Pkwy. Suite 180, was chosen as Small Business of the Month for April by the Business Recognition Council of the Greater Elkhart Chamber of Commerce.

The BOLT staff receiving awardThe business was established in 1997 by Jeff and Cathy Nelson after many years of retailing computer systems in downtown Elkhart as BOLT Computer Systems.

The Nelsons decided to change directions and specialize in computer-based digital document imaging after the computer business became increasingly saturated. They embarked on a two-year transition period when they continued to service their scaled-down computer sales and services while researching and learning about the imaging industry and the products and services that they now offer. The imaging systems and services offered by BOLT allow businesses to turn large volumes of paper-based documents and information into computer-based images, which can be easily searched and retrieved over networks and even the Internet.

BOLT has a client base spanning five states. Government agencies and private companies of all types and sizes have benefited from increases in productivity and efficiency, and also from having a fail-safe method to protect against the loss of valuable information due to natural disasters, theft, vandalism or misplaced documents.

A big part of BOLT's job is to work with customers, analyzing their particular needs and responding with the best mix of software or hardware for the job.

BOLT is the regional, authorized reseller of LaserFiche document-imaging products, the worldwide leader in document imaging for municipal government. BOLT's clients include cities, towns, counties and even the 911th Airlift Air Force base near Pittsburgh.

BOLT serves a wide variety of clients from the private sector as well. Customers include both large and small accounting firms, insurance agencies, human resources departments, lawyers, medical practices, banks and mortgage firms, manufacturers, engineers and architects.

BOLT also offers production scanning services for businesses that do not have the resources or desire to process large volumes of records. These services include the scanning and indexing of documents ranging in size from business cards and checks to over-sized engineering drawings and blue prints. BOLT can also convert microfilm records to digital format and engineering prints to digital CAD files.

BOLT Document Management has contributed to the community by participating as charter members of the "Character First" program in Elkhart, making technology donations to community organizations and is an active supporter and participant in their local Neighborhood Watch program.

Dianna Koelndorfer, Communications Department manager of the Greater Elkhart Chamber of Commerce, prepared this story.
